Modern relationships: young people these days.....
September 30th 2010 03:01
It's the typical 'Young people these days....' comments that prompted me to talk about this. I feel that I say it more often now as I grow older (not so old mind you!) and married and everything, and I start noticing how the behaviour and act of the younger generation differs to mine, that makes me just want to say: 'In my time...'
Let's talk relationships.
I was on the bus, on my way home from work, and overheard a conversation between a girl and I assume her boyfriend on the phone.
"You mean you are moving to Brisbane?"
<pause>
"No! I can't move to Brisbane!"
<pause>
"That's because you don't love me anymore."
<pause>
"Excuse me! If you loved me you wouldn't move to Brisbane."
<pause>
"Three month is still a move. If you are not going to stay then there is no reason for us to be together anymore is there?"
She must have been.... 16 to 17 years old. (I am making the assumption as she was in school uniform) Somehow this conversation feels surperficial. I can't quick point my finger at it. The fact that she is thinking ahead that her boyfriend is going to Brisbane for three month warrants the comment that the relationship is over. Isn't that a little sudden? Selfish?
Are modern relationships so fragile that it cannot withstand any form of seperation?
I don't know.... what your take on this?
Maybe I am just feeling old and secure. But hearing young people fight over a relationship makes me sad that young people just do not have fun anymore.

Cooking with Feeling
But I don't think you need to despair. I'm 20 now, and my partner and I have been together for about two and a half years. I'm currently studying in France for six months, I'm almost two months in, and even though it's hard that J's still home in Australia, I think it's working out alright.
