Spring has come

Ruby at Thought Zone inspired me to talk about spring as well, as I did just spent half a day watching birds (wild doves to be exact) nest.
See, in Australia you don't really feel the coming of spring. While South America, Asia and Europe all seem to have some sort of festival to welcome spring, we sort of just fall into it. Not only does the temperature tend to rise suddenly, not gradually, in the cities we don't see all the nature bits at work. The wild daffodils that bloom out of no where in Europe and the melting of snow, and the brightly shining sun all contribute to the feeling of spring. There are Carnivals and May Fair that welcomes such a happy season so you are fully into the whole warm and springly atmosphere.
But not here. 1st of September comes, a few mumbles about the first day of spring, that's it. Weather (besides this year) would have already been too warm for that goose-down quilt and we just keep at our lives. No celebrations, nada.
Then, I take a sickie today and sat at the window watching. The doves that permenantly resides in the shrub just outside our front door seem to be especially busy and chirppy today. Both of them are flying down, pecking about and then flying back up again and repeating the process the entire morning. I looked closer and noticed that they were pecking to find little twigs, picking them up and taking them to a nearby tree. They were so busy at work I figured they must be nesting. Nearby, a magpie was hovering between trees and also with a twig at its beak. I thought - it's truely is spring.
As Ruby said - it's magical - when you really notice the changes. The sky is clearer and people seem happier. The birds are all activities at once and even our resident frog is singing away at nights.
