What does a rich woman want?

June 12th 2008 10:42
For some reason we've been discussing Jane Austin's Pride and Prejudice. The book's famous opening line is "It is a truth universally ackknowledged, that a single man in posession of a good fortune, must be in want of a wife."

Obviously she never predicted what will happen in the 21st century. It seems like these days all men with good fortune are all in want of just a shag.

Perhaps I have been reading too many magazines, but everyone, especially the rich and famous, seem to be divorcing everyone else. And the richer they are, their new 'wives' seem to get younger and younger each year.

So my friend looks at me and says "obviously this doesn't work in your household either.". Will, being a full time student, is currently partly living off me, and I used to have a pretty high paying job so it's all alright (not any more since moving onto Flight Centre, but it's now lifestyle over money at the moment) however, still, I am still the money maker in the household.

So what does a rich woman in want of? I certainly don't want a husband at the moment (and no, no dates have been set yet either, for those of you who were about to ask) and I certainly am not looking for shags. What do I want?

"I thought you were marrying me for my passport?"

Oh yes, I remember. Will's British passport that will eventually give me access to one of my own when we get married.

I suppose.

That's a hard question, but I guess to answer it one needs first to get rich, well not by blogging that is for sure.

The opening of the book was pretty true for that era.

Times change, is that good or bad? Amy.

Hi Katyzzz I don't think it's good nor bad. I mean, as you said, times change and the change isn't always for the worse. We just do things differently these days I suppose!

I studied this book in high school and it's actually the other way around. More like it a (good looking/young) woman must be in want of a rich guy for a husband!
