Having a pet could be practice for having children?
September 15th 2010 03:42
This morning, we had a little nudge at each other saying that it was each other's turn to get up and feed the cats.
Which gave me an idea: isn't this what it would be like if we had kids? Who's turn is it to feed them? Who's turn is it to change them?
We often alternate tasks to do around our little household. The Kitty litter need cleaning, the cat's towel need changing, the cats need to be fed and the cats need to be played with.
So I was thinking making having small (young) pets could potentially be practice for when the real children comes?
And then I thought: Not really, because with children you can't just leave them at home all day without being supervised. You can't just let them cry and tell them you'll feed them in another 1/2 hour (like we do to cats, to train them that meowing their heads off is not going to get them anywhere) and you certainly can't leave them overnight alone if you happen to be staying out the night.
It does help when it comes to compromising your house work though. I think it's nice to know that my husband and I are willing to share the work. Not all couples do I believe.
