Moving and the little silly mistakes
September 12th 2009 11:13
Today we did our official move. Well, when I say move I mean just relocating all our crap from my parents' garage into our new unit. That's it. We haven't had the energy to actually reassemble all the furnitures and put everything away where they belong.
That's why we are back at my parents' again for tonight
HOWEVER, we did manage to realise one silly mistake we made.
We had to buy a new mattress this time round because when we moved from Coffs down here our old mattress was old and the springs were all out of line so we decided that it was a chance for us to buy a new one.
About 2 weeks ago we went and bought ourselves a nice comfortable mattress from Snooze and we were extremely happy with the purchase. It was delivered to our new unit and was leaning against the wall waiting for us to officially move in.
Today we planned to at least put the bed together so that even if the rest of the house looks like a war zone, we have a nice comfy place to sleep. So after lots of stacking, looking for the right allen keys and making sure the right parts are connected to the right parts, we were finally finished. All we needed to do is to put the mattress on and done!
So on goes the mattress... it didn't fit. IT DIDN'T FIT! The mattress was too big and the bed was too small.
"I thought we had a queen bed?"
"Yeah, that's what we've always had didn't we?"
Obviously not. After a phone call to Snooze to check the actual dimensions of a queen and a double, we discovered that we in fact, had a double bed, and we had bought a queen mattress.
"Can we exchange it?" I asked hopefully.
"Have you taken it out of the plastic cover?"
"Yes"
"Oh then it's considered second hand goods. For you to exchange it we'll need to take it back as a second hand good which we'll need to try to auction it off to someone else and you might not get the full amount back, and then you'll need to pay for the difference between that amount to the price of a new mattress." Came the reply.
Right. So I guess the other option was to give our old bed to Vennies and buy a new bed frame.
Thankfully you can actually get a cheap bed frame, one of those metal frame ones that cost less than $200. Should last us a couple of years or more. The current one had been 5 years already.
What a stuff up! it's funny now, wasn't too funny about 5 hours ago!
