Finding a man that does everything?

December 9th 2008 10:49
Have just had sometime to visit other people's blogs and noticed that Krystal had written something about hoping her husband would help a little more around the house.

I can't really say much to that because I happen to have a partner that does everything for me around the house, and I am indeed spoilt rotten.

And I know that men like this are rare so I am very happy.

Yesterday for dinner he especially looked up the internet and made Moroccan Lamb Shanks.

And then he weeded the garden and cleaned the bathroom as well as our cat's litter.

I cannot complain!

However it seems like nothing is always going to be perfect. Men like mine are probably never going to be making the buck so we the females become the main income earner. On the other hand, those who are making the big bucks are never home to help. (I trend I've noticed so far comparing the different relationships I have came across in my adult life)

So, what is it to be? I don't think it matters either way as long as there is a compromise. It's pretty much a matter of preference and priorities don't you think?

I think ideally both the male and female should be working, and both should be doing housework , however it rarely works out like this, esp. when kids come along...

Sounds like you're doing well, Amy, but when two people work it is easy enough to pay people to help with those chores, priorities is what it is all about, and compromise and being prepared to part with a few bucks to preserve harmony in the household and prevent that threat of never ending stress.

I have a man who can earn a decent wage AND does a lot of the housework. I do not view him doing the housework as 'helping me out', as many women do. All this housework stuff is still considered 'women's work' and if men do it, then we have to applaud them for it and consider ourselves spoiled. If women do the same thing, the men usually just take it for granted.

A lot of the responsibility for changing attitudes falls back onto women. I remember hearing about this woman who did everything for her husband and then wondered why he did nothing. She had rung up the radio station in response to their 'laziest husband' segment. They picked him up and made him clean up this huge industrial kitchen. What did the wife say afterwards? 'Oh the poor thing, you scared him.' All I could think was, it's her own fault she's married to a slob.

So whether a woman ends up with a 'houseman' type has nothing to do with men per se, but rather the type of man she chooses. If she loves to play the housewife and homemaker she shouldn't wonder when she ends up with a man who puts his feet up when he comes home from work.

Amy, how sweet of you to mention me, I was so thrilled, and you are so right.

The wisdom of experience, I guess.
