And I pronounce you... husband and wife!
July 17th 2010 12:37
I've survived a whole week being married.
Sorry haven't been around - have been busy... err.. getting married!
On the 10 July we tied the knot on the little beach of Iririki Island, Vanuatu.
We did a mini pre-honeymoon first, arriving a week early to see the volcano at Tanna and to do a bit of snorkelling in the beautiful waters surrounding it. (Stories to come in Travel String, when I have sometime to get the photos together and properly be able to sit down and write them up)
The wedding day was beautiful. It was simple, relaxed and just as how I wanted it to be. However, it wasn't a wedding without the stress. We had to arrive 3 days prior to the date to organise everything. As part of the wedding package we were suppose to get VIP pick up from the airport, have the wedding coordinator meet up and show us around the resort, have room upgrade, and get flowers and fruit and champagne on arrival.
So we arrived at the airport. Nothing. We check in at the resort, still nothing. No VIP treatment, no wedding coordinator, and surprise surprise... no room upgrade nor the champagne. Upon request we were told the wedding coordinator is busy at the moment and will see us 'tomorrow' so we retired to our room and waited another day.
In the morning of the next day, still no wedding coordinator. It wasn't until close to lunch time did we eventually meet up with her, and found out that there has been a mix up. To cut long story short, they had thought my parents were us, and they upgraded THEM, gave THEM the champagne and even had welcome banners meeting my parents' flight (not ours) with our names on it, and only realised the mistaken when they mentioned to the staff that Will and Amy is already at the resort!
Eventually, we got the upgrade, got the champagne and got down to business of organising the wedding. Frustrating then, but makes a good story to tell now
The day went smoothly. I came on a canoe with my Melanesian warrior escort. The day was sunny and beautiful and we were married under a flower arch on the beach. Vows were said, rings exchanged and we were pronounced husband and wife in the presence of family and close friends.
It's been a week, and I don't feel any different. It's quite odd having to introduce Will as my husband but other than that - life goes on. We came home to a mailbox full of bills, and 5000 odd photos to sort through, but that's just life!
I have decided to change my name, and it's going to be a long process. As we have not married in Australia, I am going to have to go to the Registry of Marriage, Birth and Deaths to apply for a Change of Name certificate, and then I can use this certificate to formally change my name with each and every institution, organisation, banks, insurance companies etc. All part of the fun I guess!
