Eeks - my ring!

I nearly had a heart attack.
Last week I went to visit Will up in Coffs for 5 days. It was lovely. It's nice to be in our own little space again. Being at parents makes you feel like a little kid again where you had to report everything you do, and nothing in the house feels like 'mine' - someone is always using the phone, the internet, the tv and I am always last in priority for these utilities. It's also good to be with Will.
While up in Coffs, Will made an observation: "You are not wearing your ring?"
I looked at my finger and thought I must have forgotten to wear it - as I always do. I am not very used to wearing jewellery you see, so it wasn't a big deal then that I wasn't wearing it. Assuming it's just sitting on the bench at my parents, I shrugged my shoulders.
However, I got back and it wasn't on the bench.
"Mum? Have you seen my ring?" - Usually mum is the first person to know where we have leave our stuff and she would instantly know exactly where to find them. As mothers do!
"No."
Well that's a surprise answer! If mum doesn't know - then no one would know.
So I search hi and low, even getting a colleague to look on my office desk for me and the ring was no where to be seen.
Over the phone, I told Will that I had lost the ring. He laughed.
"I knew this would happen! Why do you take it off?"
"I am not used to wearing rings - they make me uncomfortable."
"Keep looking, it has to be somewhere."
"It was only $100 thankfully, I'll go buy myself another one"
"That's not the point.. silly. I bought you the ring as a symbol of my love..."
"I am sorry..."
* * * * * * *
Still panicking, the next morning as I dressed for work, I put my hand in my pocket.
There it was. The ring.
*phew*
But see what do you do if you lose an engagement ring? I know mine was only $100 (bought it during the post christmas sales) but say my cousin whose ring cost her now-husband his two months wage - what do you do?!
