Phwar... let's not get nasty shall we??

May 25th 2008 01:23
Was just having a browse in the ABC shop contemplating buying Planet Earth DVD series (Didn't end up, too expensive) when the song can on in the shop. I had heard of it before, when it was first released and Merrick and Rosso made fun of the lyric and the performer herself about how obsessive and scary she sounded.

The song, called 'I'll Kill Her' and you can listen to it and view the lyrics here -> Soko: I'll Kill Her

At first without listening to the lyrics, I was like "This doesn't sound too bad!" Then the killing started and I got scared.

Even more scary is that I actually know there are people out there with this sort of attitude.

Jealousy, insecurity are all factors into hate and killing and I wonder how SoKo got the inspiration to write this song? Personal experiences?

The song actually made number 9 on the "Triple J Hottest 100" chart earlier this year.

I am all for alternative songs, but I am not sure if songs like this might actually encourage certain social / anti-social activities among youngesters?

It will only end in tears....

I'd like to say music has the power to inspire (not so people get killed but imagine of all the beautiful songs inspired people to do beautiful things)
But i just don't think it does. Otherwise We'd all be f-ed Think about all the shite people put out about drugs and violence and songs. It just doesn't reflect in the crime rate.

I think it's not really meant to be literal.

Hey Amy,

Based on the title and your response I'm not going to listen to the song, but I also don't like a lot of violent/virulent song lyrics out there. Have you heard 'Kill You' by Eminem? Or 'Smack My Bitch Up' by The Prodigy? Awful stuff...

I like music which is positive and optmistic.

Hi guys! Thanks for stopping by! the song really has some good melody to it just with unfortunate lyrics (in response to postmoderncritic)

Brenton - possibly not literal, but then again, the idea is there...

Morgan - yes she is French and I wouldn't know if she meant it to be a parody!

Kdthestrange - yes and no. Sometimes you do wonder what goes on in people's minds tho!
