I am mute for now
December 4th 2008 08:49
Since Monday I've had this tingle in my throat. But it was no regular tingle and I didn't know what to make of it.
It got worse, and today, I was almost battling to speak, to the point that after every three words I had to take a breath and start again.
Yet, other parts of my body feels fine. I have no headache, no fever, none of the other symptoms that would suggest I have a flu or a cold.
So, I went to the doctor. And it seems, I have laryngitis.
"I have what?! - Could you spell that?"
"It's your voice box. It's damaged." The doctor explained in plain English.
I nerdly looked it up on Google: "is an inflammation of the larynx. It causes hoarse voice or the complete loss of the voice because of irritation to the vocal folds (vocal cords)."
Oh. I see.
"So try not to talk as much for the next week" The doctor prescribed. "Where do you work?"
"Um.. I am a travel agent"
"Oh... then good luck"
Wonderful. No wonder. I dont even have a soar throat but every word to me is a lot of effort. I don't even know how I got this strangely pronouced condition.
So. There we go. I am mute for now. I whisper from now and then, and hopefully someone understands me. As for work - I'll just have to explain, although I am not sick sick, it's simply impossible to do my job.
Oh, Part 4 of my Kakadu trip is coming. Give me another day to sort out the last of the photos.
