Yep. I have joined the many first home buyers to willingly fall into the increased property markets. It kind of sucks, knowing that most sellers are selling at an inflated price just because they know we have a little more grant. However the low interest rate helps a little too so I guess if I don't do it now I won't be doing it anytime later soon.
So, after a month of lookinig, trying to find somewhere that would satisfy everyone involved, and within my own budgets, I have settled for a small 2 bedder in Eastwood, just 2 blocks from work!
The contract has now been signed and settlement is end of June. So now, while gathering up all the rest of the settlement money, I am also busy thinking about a couple of different renovation ideas for the bathroom while waiting.
I really am ok with how it is now, but knowing that most of the renovation would be easier done before we move in, we might as well get it all done now. Currently there are old carpets in the unit which I am hoping to replace with timber flooring, and the bathroom, although functional, can probably be renovated to make better use of the space. And if I had any more money left probably the kitchen as well.
I think a trip to IKEA is inevitable
Does that make me feel any more mature? When I had to say "I'll speak to my solicitor about that" to the real estate I certain felt like I owned an empire
Never thought I'd speak those words!
The unit is going to be my own, and I am getting Will to pay me rent for it to help out with the loan repayments. I think that's a good set up. At least I know if we ever split up it won't be messy (touch wood, but never hurt to have a backup plan!)
I can't wait to be able to walk to work either! I am just a tad bit tired of the Sydney traffic, even if I am only driving around 10Km each way, it can take up to 1hour on bad days!
Anyways, thought I'd share this news. Hopefully I'll be able to start writing a LOT more now that I have less to think/do.

Is Why
Have you gotten a structural survey for the unit yet? It's a good idea. I'd rather that you pay for the bath remodel than a new foundation that you didn't know was bad.
It's been my unhappy experience to have had to repair seemingly sound homes because there were unseen problems.
