Grocery Shopping and cooking
December 18th 2008 09:24
I boasted about having a man that does the work around the house, I boasted how much I enjoy having things done for me and meals cooked for me. I am absolutely spoilt, I know. However on my days off I still do help out and share the load, especially when it comes to grocery shopping.
Out of all shoppings I do, grocery shopping will have to be my second favourite shopping. (First being book shopping) - I don't know what it is, but I actually enjoy looking at all the fresh foods, trying to figure out in my mind what we'll have for our meals while looking at the specials, and then I enjoy coming home and putting all the food away.
I think its the enjoyment of actually knowing that there are always going to be food on our tables that makes me happy.
So today, for the first time in a very long while I've actually studied a recipe and decided to try marinate my own capsicums. So, I went out to buy some capsicums and spices today and tried it out.... although I got side tracked during shopping that I ended up getting the wrong stuff... Instead of white vinegar I bought balsamic vinegar, instead of thyme I bought rosemary. Although, I still tried them anyway so I guess tomorrow night we'll know if it all worked out ok.
But do I like the feeling of accomplishment of actually making something rather than buy it from a deli. Don't you feel accomplished when you cook something really nice from scratch and it actually turned out just like they are in a restaurant?
One of our favourite shows is Jamie At Home - where Jamie Oliver teaches you how to make up some really good but simple meals with ingredients you can buy anywhere. I like shows like that, and not cooking shows that you must use certain cut of meat or certain style of Olive oil... a lot of the stuff shows and celebrity chefs teach are not really do-able in a normal family environment... that's why when we first saw this show (and later, Ministry of Food which he teaches families that have never cooked - to cook) we loved the fact that we could actually cook something that HE has cooked and actually have it look like the ones he's made on telly! Not to mention, cooking for yourself is always healthier and no matter what other people argue - is always going to be cheaper.
Saving up to buy the book now
I think I am going to start trying to cook a lot more on my days off!

Cooking, i think, is therapeutic -- but many might beg to differ ;- p
Happy cooking!

But...my cooking is far less joyful as I'm prone to being lazy. It's on my list to do more of next year. At the moment, I make something healthy that is enough for us to eat for a couple of days!

Thanks for dropping by. Yes, the colours and definitely the smell too! Call me a freak but I love walking down the fruit part smelling all the fruit. Especially mango and peaches.
