Ah family - you can't choose them
August 26th 2009 11:54
My last post was about 'cultural' differences between my parents and myself, fighting over how I am doing things for my wedding?
Well, further arguments erupted about the price we are now paying for bathroom renovations.
I don't want to say, but it seems like the 'cheap cheap cheap' ideal is strong with my dad - not quality. We have finally found someone realiable, recommended to us by trusted sources and also cheaper than some previous quotes we had for renovating our bathroom. I am thrilled, and can't wait to see it finished. However when mentioned to my parents, the first thnig I was told is "I could have got it for cheaper for you. 3 years ago when so and so....."
What is it about Dads who seem to have to have the last word? And yes I know that are cheaper alternatives - but I don't trust them. That doesn't seem to register with him. I am "wasting" my money apparently and that just because 3 years ago his god-son also renovated his bathroom for slightly less, he seem to think that just out of that ONE event everything else has to based on that.
Funny that.
Can't choose your family I suppose. Will just laughs.
Speaking of Will - he has been the very good husband to be and working hard on the new place. Over the past week he had been going to the new place when he doesn't have uni to do as much as he can so we can move in sooner. He has painted the walls (Over last weekend I also had some helpers too - thanks guys!), sanded down the window and door frames to prepare them for painting, and most of all, waking up early to make me breakfast before we head off
Do I feel loved?
Oh yeah.
It would be nice to have a place of our own again. I am starting to get sick of my year 10 bed. And I am sure Will is a little sick of my sister's year 10 bed
So anyways, so I've asked my parents not to chat about anything to do with the wedding and the unit anymore. But if this continues with other related topics, I wouldn't know what we'll ever chat about anymore.

Pleased to hear of Will's contributions.

Yeah, I'm totally sick of this Chinese 'cheap, cheap, cheap' mentality too. It's like they think you are stupid for paying more than the absolute bargain basement prices for anything.
