Hello Soul Mate: Your job is done. Bye bye.
October 22nd 2010 00:17
It's been a while since my last post. It's funny how when one part of your life gets busy (ie, Work), everything seem to get busy all at the same time.
Anyways. As you know I am in the process of reading Eat Pray Love. So far it's quite a well written book, and there are lot of good points in it about love, life and almost everything else. I wanted to share a theory that was shared in the book, because I thought to myself: how true it is!
(If you haven't read the book, and don't want to know, stop reading now)
This was said to the author while she was in India soul searching after a painful relationship break up. She couldn't let go, and doesn't understand why it didn't work out when she thought this guy was her soul mate....
"People think a soul mate is your perfect fit, and that's what everyone wants. But a true soul mate is a mirror, the person who shows you everything that's holding you back, the person who brings you to your own attention so you can change your life. A true soul mate is probably the most important person you'll ever meet, because they tear down your walls and smack you awake. But to live with a soul mate forever? Nah. Too painful. Soul mates, they come into your life just to reveal another layer of yourself to you, and then they leave."
I can truly say that I am in complete agreement. How many times have I myself, crumbled in a heap crying my hearts out because I thought I had lost the 'one' person that understood me? (well, ok, ONCE. You may recall reading about it in my very early posts about my relationships) And to think how true it is that I now realise if at the time, that person and I have decided to be together and actually live with each other for the rest of our lives... how boring it would be because there simply won't be any surprises, any new discoveries and any excitment as we both knew each other too well!
